HIV-smittade barn

This is Ganesh, he is 6 years old and HIV-positive staying at ASRO orphanage in south Goa. His english has improved a lot during the last two years when I met him first. He is usually all smiling but on this pic he is having some thoughts on his mind. He just got back from hospital after being treated for bad pneumonia. Once the children come to ASRO all of them get their health improved just by taking HIV medicine and eating 4 meals per day. His grandmother is still alive but can not take care of him, and especially can not feed him proper food so he would stay as healthy as he can. That is why he lives at ASRO.

Maria Vikman

This is Sister Saroj, 30 years old and working as a nun since 10 years back. She was trained as a nurse and can therefore work at ASRO with both the AIDS patients as well as the HIV children. Her mother did not approve at first when she wanted to leave her ordinary life including her family but in the end she said ”if this makes you happy that is what you should do”. Still every time they talk on the phone they cry because they miss each other so much.

Sister Saroj knew already at the age of 10 she wanted to work as a nun, helping others. During a severe fever illness at this age she got a strong picture and feeling of being held, cared for and loved and since then she feels Jesus is with her all the time.
What she likes the most about working at ASRO is the Sisterhood between the nuns, there are no secrets, they talk about everything very straight and everybody accepts each other as they are. Also she loves to not own anything herself, anything she needs she has to ask for permisssion and money.
What a Sister heroine!

We will keep on supporting ASRO and gather donations in order to renovate next four bathrooms (out of total 14). Let me know if you want to contribute.

Maria är en själasyster som har sitt hjärta på Barnhemmet för HIV-smittade barn i Goa, Indien. Hon samlar årligen in pengar och åker själv ner till Barnhemmet för att se till att pengarna kommer i rätta händer och blir ämnade för det som de skänktes till. Och just nu är hon på plats och agerar projektledare för bygget av nya toaletter samtidigt som hon ser till att barnen får julklappar och mer därtill. Hon är där och ger av det hon har att ge, pengarna hon samlar in och sitt eget otroliga engagemang och hjärta.
